François Lurton 2006 Campo Eliseo Tinta de Toro (Toro)
Editors' Choice
Price
$100
Everything that’s fantastic about 21st-century Toro is encapsulated in this big, intense beauty. Tobacco, vanilla and blackberry aromas grace the forceful but stylish nose, while the palate pulses with toasty blackberry, dark plum, tobacco and chocolaty flavors. Smoky, pure and long on the finish. A hands-down winner to drink now through 2016.

François Lurton 2007 Chacayes Malbec (Mendoza)
Editors' Choice
Price
$77
Exemplary and exotic in the same breath. Aromas of sandalwood, spiced blueberry compote and fine leather make for an awesome bouquet. The palate is structured and huge like any top-end Argentine Malbec, but there’s purpose and elegance as well. Tastes of integrated oak, black fruits, subtle herbs and spice. Textured, deep and toasty on the finish. Drink now through…

François Lurton 2006 Chacayes Red (Mendoza)
Cellar Selection
Price
$70
It takes a few minutes to become friends with this bruising heavyweight from Mendoza’s Uco Valley. It’s muscular, tough, tannic and lemony now, but time will unleash a lovable, big-time Argentine blend with rustic notes along with pure, polished berry fruit and loads of earthy spice. Better to hold until at least 2011 before uncorking.

François Lurton 2008 Chacayes Red (Mendoza)
Price
$80
Different than past Chacayes wines in that it's more floral and exotic, and less about pure power. Aromas of blueberry, violets and graham cracker precede a well-built palate with wild berry and floral-infused flavors. Long, creamy and smooth on the finish. Drink now through 2014.

François Lurton 2006 Piedra Negra Malbec (Mendoza)
Editors' Choice
Price
$22
Excellent value in top-flight Malbec. In the four years that we’ve rated this wine, it hasn’t dropped below 90 points. This vintage, with its deep, smooth luscious nose and dark black fruit flavors mixed with spice and chocolate, is the best Piedra Negra to date. A pure, delicious Malbec to drink now and over the next four years.

François Lurton 2007 Piedra Negra Malbec (Mendoza)

Price
$41
A powerful wine offering a rush of berry and plum aromas offset by sandalwood and blueberry. Tight as a vise in the mouth, but not overly hard or tannic. Tastes of light herbs, chocolate and bright berry fruit, then turns toward complexity and tobacco on the finish. Drink now through 2014.

François Lurton 2006 Le Pas de la Mule Mas Janeil Red (Côtes du Roussillon Villages)
Price
$75
Rich and bold, with concentrated aromas and flavors of candied cherries, raspberry preserves, ripe plum guts and accents of thyme and white pepper. Round and lush in the mouth with velvety tannins and a long, oak-infused finish. Be prepared—this is a big wine deserving of a thick steak or a hearty piece of game.

François Lurton 2007 Quinta Do Malho Red (Douro)
Online Exclusive
Price
$90
Rubber, spice cake, alfalfa and wild berry aromas are vital and interesting. The palate on this three-grape blend is rich and borderline syrupy, with mulberry, brandied berry and chocolaty flavors. Spicy and dusty, with a chocolate malt ball finish. Big enough to pack a punch. Drink in the near future.
