Frank Cornelissen 2006 Magma Rosso 5 Nerello Mascalese (Etna)
Online Exclusive
This is a curious wine for collectors and Etna enthusiasts. You can taste the volcano in its purity here. Frank Cornelissen is a renegade winemaker who uses no stabilizers or preservatives (like sulfur) and does not filter either. The wines are fermented in clay amphorae and exhibit tones of dried fruit, plums and volcanic ash.

Frank Cornelissen NV Munjebel 7 Nerello Mascalese (Etna)
Frank Cornelissen is one of the rising stars of Italy’s natural wine movement. Munjebel 7 (he does editions, instead of vintages) shows a bright ruby appearance with suspended particles that give it a slightly cloudy appearance. The aromas are fine, delicate and complex with wild berry, crushed granite and dusty earth. His wines are aged in large clay amphorae.

Frank Cornelissen 2007 Magma Rosso 6 Nerello Mascalese (Etna)
Online Exclusive
Price
$200
With the hand-painted word “Magma” across the front of the bottle, there’s no mistaking this wine as a child of Sicily’s menacing Mt. Etna. The wine (this is the 6th edition made) showcases bright fruit flavors with raisiny overtones of plum and prune. It ends on a dusty mineral note.

Frank Cornelissen NV Munjebel 7 VA Nerello Mascalese (Etna)
Made with a blend of Nerello Mascalese from different vineyard sites, or contrade, as well as various vintages, this special "Vigna Alta" Etna red shows elegant tones of small berry, black pepper and crushed stone. The wine represents the best of a natural, biodynamic and organic winemaking tradition that is taking hold in Sicily.

Frank Cornelissen NV MunJebel Rosso 4 Nerello Mascalese (Etna)
Online Exclusive
Price
$60
The 4th edition of MunJebel (a blend of Nerello Mascalese from both the 2006 and 2007 vintages) is one of Cornelissen’s nicest wines. There’s bright fruit here and an attractive purity that speaks highly of the dramatic volcanic conditions that have shaped it. It’s a special wine with a light color and delicate aspect.

Frank Cornelissen NV MunJebel Rosso 5 Nerello Mascalese (Etna)
Online Exclusive
Price
$60
Made from fruit from vintages 2007 and 2008, MunJebel 5 (pure Nerello Mascalese) exhibits a light ruby color and pristine fruit notes of small berry and dusty mineral. This wine exemplifies a winemaking philosophy in which as little as possible is done to alter the pure state of the grape.

Frank Cornelissen NV Contadino 8 Red (Etna)
Contadino 8 is a fetish wine for serious collectors of new experiences in natural and organic wines. Made with fruit from different vintages, it opens with a light ruby color and aromas of raw grapes, red candy, white pepper and dried apple. It is crisp, smooth and silky on the close.

Frank Cornelissen 2007 Rosso del Contadino 5 Red (Etna)
Online Exclusive
Price
$30
As its name implies, Rosso del Contadino is inspired by the easy-drinking wines that sustained farmers and peasants in a bygone era. Frank Cornelissen’s interpretation offers a sophisticated twist with delicate mineral nuances between the fruit. As an unfiltered and un-stabilized wine, however, you can expect a cloudy appearance and some raw notes on the finish.
