Fritz 2008 Chardonnay (Russian River Valley)

  1. $25
Really delicious, a rich, opulent wine that beguiles from first sip to last. It’s sweetly caramelized and vanilla-oaky, with crisp acidity brightening ultraripe flavors of pineapples, golden mangoes and buttered toast.  — S.H.  (9/1/2010)

Fritz 2005 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (Dry Creek Valley)

  1. $50
Showing the rustic tannins and peppery spices that Dry Creek Cabs usually possess, this Cab wants a little time in the cellar. With black currant, chocolate, tobacco and herb flavors, it’s very close in quality to the winery’s regular ’05 Cab, with a little more concentration and a firmer tannin structure.  — S.H.  (9/1/2008)

Fritz 2007 Ruxton Chardonnay (Russian River Valley)

  1. $35
The wine is from a vineyard in the Sonoma Coast. It’s quite beautiful, with a bracing acidity and minerality suggesting the tang of stones. But it’s enormously rich in fruit, brimming with pineapples, mangoes, green apple butter and pears. Just delicious.  — S.H.  (12/15/2009)

Fritz 2005 Barrel Select Estate Reserve Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley)

  1. $40
Fritz has a good track record with Dry Creek Valley Zin, one of the variety’s best natural homes in California. This is their most expensive bottling in years, and it’s quite good. Rich and savory, with fine, ripe tannins, it shows flavors of raspberries, cherries, cassis, licorice and Asian spices, with a meaty, leathery edge. Best now and for the next several years.  — S.H.  (2/1/2008)

  1. $50
A flamboyantly rich wine, elaborate in cherry, pomegranate, persimmon and cola flavors that are deep and impressive. Yet there’s good structure, with soft acidity and a gentle coating of tannins. Drink over the next four years.  — S.H.  (9/1/2011)
