Fuligni 1999 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $82
Anyone who loves great Sangiovese should snap up this star-quality wine. Always a personal favorite, the ’99 doesn’t disappoint. It’s lively and electric, with structure equal to the Tuscan fort in which it was tasted. As for flavors, look for overflowing blackberry, cola, mocha and more. A wine that can probably last for 15 years.  — M.S.  (6/1/2004)

Fuligni 1997 Riserva Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $100
Incredibly pure fruit defines the sturdy, entirely inviting nose. This is one juicy, rock steady wine; the tannic structure is that of a fortress. There’s unadulterated fruit at every checkpoint, and it hits like a hammer as it transitions from palate to finish. To drink now would require rich, rich food. It’s such a baby; drink not before 2007, if possible.  — M.S.  (11/15/2003)

Fuligni 2000 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $74
This winery is always at the top of the heap, and it’s 2000 shows true depth of flavor, texture and nuance. Seemingly approachable now, with classy plum and berry aromas and flavors. Softening any astringency is vanilla and tobacco, while a distant shot of citrus adds life. The whole speaks louder than the parts; a super overall package. Imported by Empson (USA) Ltd.  — M.S.  (7/1/2005)

Compared to past vintages, this Riserva embodies a lighter, more elegant style. Aromas are delivered in a direct and vertical manner and include cherry, red currant, chocolate and shadings of exotic spice. In the mouth, this wine shows enormous intensity, but also harmony and balance.  — M.L.  (10/1/2010)

Fuligni 2006 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $77
Fuligni’s newest Brunello is characterized by well-polished and very elegant tones of graphite and slate roof that give the wine a defined mineral backbone. It becomes more expansive on the palate thanks to its natural richness and fruit-forward berry flavors.  — M.L.  (4/1/2011)

Fuligni 2005 S.J. (San Jacopo) Red (Toscana)

  1. $36
This modern red from the Montalcino area of Tuscany exhibits amazing chocolate-like intensity with dark shades of espresso bean, black cherry, vanilla, incense and strawberry cola. It has so much cherry in the mouth it recalls cherry liqueur or cherry-chocolate cake.  — M.L.  (4/1/2008)
