Funky Llama 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)
Best Buy
Price
$6
Every llama has its day, and for Funky Llama this is one to take to the bank. The olive, leather and dry oaky aromas set the stage for solid cassis, raspberry and herb flavors. The body, feel and finish seem right, so for the money it’s a blue chip special.

With solid peach aromas and an otherwise clean nose, this llama is worth the ride. Peach and honeydew flavors are sweet but not cloying or mucky, and there’s even a hint of spicy white pepper to give the finish character.

Funky Llama 2009 Malbec (Mendoza)
Best Buy
Price
$6
Candied cherry aromas are simple and sweet, while the young, jammy palate is clean, fresh and offers basic berry flavors. Finishes with some thickness, but overall this is the type of wine that we can recommend at $6.

Funky Llama 2004 Rosé Malbec (Mendoza)

Fairly lively and forward, with sturdy plum and berry characteristics. This is a surprisngly solid Malbec rose; you get a secure and crisp finish, not to much wayward sugar, and pretty good quality overall. Served chilled you might just enjoy a glass, or even a bottle.

Funky Llama 2004 Malbec (Mendoza)

Ripe and solid, with big, bold aromas and flavors. It’s full of cherry and raspberry, and the feel and balance seem right. Medium in length and strength, with a hint of toast on the finish. Imported by Tastings Import Company.

Funky Llama 2010 Pinot Grigio (Mendoza)

Clean, timid and melony on the nose, with an emphasis on clean. Fresh and light in the mouth, and tasty despite being 100% uncomplicated. Flavors of sweet apple, pear and citrus are pleasant and should carry mass appeal. Good for an everyday white quaffer.

Funky Llama 2003 Chardonnay (Mendoza)
Best Buy
Price
$6
A little oily and heavy, but the buttercup and candle wax aromas seem more real than artificial. The palate is plump, a bit sugary, but the apple and orange notes are clear. Finishes juicy enough and not overly cloying.

Funky Llama 2003 Tempranillo (Mendoza)
Best Buy
Price
$6
Generally gimmicky names draw no applause from these parts, but here we like this wine’s raspberry, graham cracker and orange-peel nose along with its crystallized raspberry and strawberry flavors. It’s slightly gritty and sugary, but overall it’s still fresh enough to handle the sweetness.
