Gabriel Meffre 2001 Domaine de Longue Toque Red (Gigondas)
-
$18
This 44-acre vineyard is situated in the heart of the rocky Dentelles de Montmirail. A blend of 75% Grenache, with Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, it is big, brooding, powerful with young, sweet tannins and solid spicy flavors. The texture is flowing and opulent, but the tannins remain at the end, offering good aging potential.

Possessed of mouthfilling plum and black cherry fruit, this supple-textured Gigondas doesn’t offer a ton of nuance but is well made and satisfies for its persistent and authoritative flavors. Drink it over the next 4–5 years.
