Gentile Collins 2002 Gran Syrah (Mendoza)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $15
More lean and tight than bulky, with licorice, pepper and leather aromas. Compact in the mouth, with spice and cherry flavors leading into a peppery, drying finish. Balanced and more traditional than many modern, beefy, unidentifiable reds. Imported by 31 Degrees South Imports.  — M.S.  (11/1/2006)

Gentile Collins 2001 Malbec (Mendoza)

The nose is floral and sweet, if a bit candied. In the mouth, full and fresh blueberries mix nicely with the essences of clove and anise. The finish is smooth and sturdy, and surprisingly long. This is a good wine from a little-known producer, one that gets better with airing. –M.S.  — M.S.  (5/1/2003)

Gentile Collins 2001 Chardonnay (Mendoza)

Subdued aromas lean toward acacia and pear. The mouthfeel is kind of thick and beefy, and the flavors of ripe apple and honey seem to work with that type of weight. Given the price it has plenty going for it, including a warm and satisfying finish. Best Buy. —M.S.  — M.S.  (5/1/2003)

Gentile Collins 2002 Tempranillo (Mendoza)

  • Online Exclusive

The heavy, rough nose is strange; it smells much like coffee grounds. The palate is chewy and big, and rather out of balance. Even the chocolaty notes to the finish aren’t quite right; bitterness is what you take from it. –M.S.  — M.S.  (5/1/2003)
