Georg Mosbacher 2007 Forster Ungeheuer Auslese Riesling (Pfalz)
Price
$62
While this wine is absolutely loaded with fruit—ranging from pineapple to hints of apricot and banana—it’s not overly rich or heavy. It’s lusciously sweet but balanced by mouthwatering acids, making it an auslese that’s deceptively easy to drink, and one that should even be able to accompany savory dishes as it reaches 10 years of age or so.

Georg Mosbacher 2007 Forster Freundstück Grosses Gewächs Riesling (Pfalz)
Price
$62
Tasted from tank just prior to bottling, this is a rounder, riper wine than the rest of the Mosbach trockens, with a creaminess from extended lees contact and ripe peach notes that marry beautifully with the site’s salty minerality. Long and balanced on the finish.

Georg Mosbacher 2007 Forster Musenhang Spätlese Trocken Riesling (Pfalz)
Price
$36
Aromas of peach, lime and mineral make a first-rate initial impression, and are then followed by zesty citrus flavors that enhance rather than overpower the briny minerality. It’s 13% alcohol, but maintains a wonderful balance of alcohol, acid and just a hint of sugar. Long and mouthwatering on the finish.

Georg Mosbacher 2007 Forster Elster Kabinett Trocken Riesling (Pfalz)
Price
$27
The relatively low residual sugar in this wine gives it a leaner feel than Mosbacher’s other 2007s, but the fruit comes through as lime, grapefruit and passion fruit, marked by Forst’s prominent minerality. Very crisp and long; would pair well with many seafood dishes.

Georg Mosbacher 2007 Deidesheimer Mäushöhle Kabinett Trocken Riesling (Pfalz)
Price
$28
Comparing this wine to the Forster Elster from Mosbacher illustrates the differences in the two sites: this wine shows more power and weight than the Forster, but not quite the length or elegance. Baked apple and cinnamon notes power the midpalate, finishing crisp and clean.

Georg Mosbacher 2007 Forster Elster Spätlese Riesling (Pfalz)
Price
$36
A fun, fruit-driven spätlese in a rather sweet style (52.5 g/l residual sugar), Mosbacher’s 2007 Elster features intense lime and apple aromas and flavors and a flashy personality. It’s delightful but not that serious or complex.

Georg Mosbacher 2007 Forster Kabinett Riesling (Pfalz)
Price
$21
This is plump and peachy, but still endowed with enough briny minerality to give it interest. There’s plenty of density and length, and the acids are sufficient to provide a sense of dryness on the finish.
