Gianni Brunelli 2006 Riserva Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $75
This interpretation of Sangiovese Grosso is clean, polished, ripe and elegant. It opens with dark concentration and berry notes of cassis and candied cherry, and then rum cake, leather and tobacco show up on the finish, backed by firm tannins and bright acidity.  — M.L.  (5/1/2012)

Gianni Brunelli 2003 Amor Costante Merlot (Toscana)

  1. $65
The standout wine of the Dancing Bear portfolio, this is 90% Merlot, 10% Sangiovese. As might be expected from a 2003, it’s superripe, with black cherry fuit flavors that verge on prune without actually tipping over the edge. Vanilla, smoke and toast from aging in small oak frames and supports the fruit without overwhelming it, while helping to shape the lush…  — W.E.  (10/1/2007)

Gianni Brunelli 2004 Riserva Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $105
This elegant wine is distinguished by mineral notes of lead pencil and slate that give backbone to broader aromas of cherry, plum, currant and prune. Oak-related layers of spice and toast add a refined touch but do not distract from the overall fruit characteristics.  — M.L.  (10/1/2010)

Gianni Brunelli 2006 Le Chiuse di Sotto Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

This is a garnet-ruby-colored Brunello with remarkable freshness and pristine berry aromas. Le Chiuse di Sotto would pair beautifully with roasted rabbit or white meat thanks to the polished, elegant feel it imparts on the close.  — M.L.  (4/1/2011)

Gianni Brunelli 1999 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

Smooth and cool, with mellow cola and menthol aromas atop a full, rich palate. This wine pours on the berry, chocolate and oak, and the finish is pure and ripe. It’s a good one for sure, a full package with polish and pizzazz.  — M.S.  (6/1/2004)

Gianni Brunelli 2000 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $75
Plum, cranberry and cherry—but not too much oak—make for a lovely nose, while the soft-ish palate is more round than blisteringly tannic. Midpalate and finishing flavors of espresso and chocolate seem oak-related, yet there’s no woody resin flavors to detract from the purity. Meets all the standards of a fine wine without forcing it. Imported by Vinifera Imports.  — M.S.  (7/1/2005)

Gianni Brunelli 2004 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  • Online Exclusive
Gianni Brunelli—Le Chiuse di Sotto is the kind of Brunello you’ll want to pair with pork tenderloin or leg of lamb. The wine’s caressing aromas recall ripe berries, spice and cured meat. It offers chewy consistency and a tight tannic backbone. The wine is on the ripe side and for that reason it could be a good match to hearty meat dishes.  — M.L.  (6/1/2009)
