Gini 2007 Col Foscarin Garganega (Recioto di Soave)

  • Online Exclusive
Here’s a beautiful dessert wine (made with Garganega grapes, native to northern Italy) that would marry a platter of mixed cheeses or a delectable slice of foie gras. The syrupy and sweet wine delivers rich layers of candied fruit, apricot and honey.  — M.L.  (12/15/2011)

Gini 2007 Contrada Salvarenza Vecchie Vigne Garganega (Soave Classico)

  1. $35
Made with fruit from old vines, this is a rich and incredibly sophisticated expression of Soave Classico with wonderful density, intensity and lingering aromas of mature melon, stone fruit and almond. Its creamy richness persists on the palate.  — M.L.  (8/1/2011)

Gini 2008 Contrada Salvarenza Vecchie Vigne Garganega (Soave Classico)

  1. $35
The name “Salvarenza” comes from a legend in which a damsel, Renza, needed to be saved, “salva,” from imminent danger. This vineyard cru expression shows wonderful intensity of peach, melon and citrus aromas and would pair with asparagus flan and cheese sauce.  — M.L.  (8/1/2011)

Gini 2001 Contrada Salavrenza Vecchie Vigne White (Soave Classico Superiore)

  1. $24
From a single vineyard’s old vines, here is a full, very rich wine, packed with flavors of almonds and ripe nuts. Layers of wood give it a toasty character, but never one that dominates the quality fruit.  — R.V.  (7/1/2003)

Gini 1999 La Frosca Garganega (Soave Classico Superiore)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $18
If you thought Gini’s 1998 La Frosca was great, try this one. Yes, the price is a little higher, but it’s worth it. Apple and citrus aromas start this one off. Excellent acidity and balance follow, with a smooth mouthfeel and a long finish. Whoever thought Soaves could be this good?  — M.N.  (12/31/2000)

Gini 2008 La Froscà Garganega (Soave Classico)

  1. $27
This vintage of La Froscà Soave Classico ushers forth a bold and sophisticated style followed by thick, almost fatty tones of mature melon and peach. Pair with food that has an acidic bite to offset the wine’s creamy density. Chinese chicken salad with tangerine wedges should do.  — M.L.  (8/1/2011)

Gini 2000 Sorai Chardonnay (Delle Venezie)

  1. $24
A wood-aged Chardonnay from the hills above Soave, this is rich, honeyed from the malolactic fermentation and full of tropical fruit flavors. It is rich and delicious, but also well structured.  — R.V.  (7/1/2003)
