Golden Kaan 2003 Reserve Selection Cabernet Sauvignon (Western Cape)

  1. $14
Golden Kaan’s best wine to date, this competes with some of South Africa’s much pricier wines. There are cola, balsam, coffee and mixed berry aromas, while the mouthfeel is creamy, with dry tannins. On the palate, the wine picks up some earthy flavors in addition to mixed berry, and has good length on the finish. Imported by Golden Kaan USA.  — M.D.  (7/1/2006)

Like most of Golden Kaan’s wines, this is an easydrinking, affordable choice. On the nose, a fruity, elegant combination of bright berry and pepper and clove leads into cherry and red berry flavors with a spicy, smoky edge. The finish is fresh but lingers.  — S.K.  (11/15/2008)

  1. $10
Aromas of peach, lemon and apple hint at the zippy but layered character of this white. On the palate, more lemon and apple flavors dance on a fruity, minerally wave. With a stated mission of making consumer-friendly wines for today’s marketplace, Golden Kaan, a joint venture between South Africa’s KWV and European-based wine company Racke GmbH, pumps out exactly that. Golden Kaan 2003 Reserve Selection Shiraz (Western Cape)

Golden Kaan is known for their bargain-priced bottlings, and this wine shows the extra effort.
