Golden Valley 1997 St. Herman's Vineyard Chardonnay

Scents of root and earth and sassafras; flavors are a bit tight and green, even slightly stemmy, but it’s textured and layered, with generous Pinot character. More Burgundian than Californian, but a serious wine with depth and complexity. Seemingly built for aging.  — P.G.  (9/1/2000)
