A creamy, ripe, almost syrupy wine with a jammy essence and some mint to the nose. Dark as night in color, rich in berry and cassis flavors, and finishes with a dose of prune. Smooth and deep Cabernet Sauvignon with 23% Syrah and 7% Cab Franc. Shows all the trimmings: coconut, chocolate and depth. Drink now through 2011.

One of the more perfumed Chilean red wines you’re likely to encounter. The Viognier and Grenache bring a floral, bouncy element, while the Syrah contributes smoky accents, chocolate and power. An interesting Rhône-style blend with its own alluring character.

Lo Mejor is the most elevated, worldly Pinot in the Corpora group’s portfolio (Veranda, Porta and Agustinos are others). It is ripe and smoky, with alluring berry aromas and smooth black cherry and raspberry flavors. It’s warm and a bit fiery on the finish, but with food that won’t be a big factor. A good example of what Bío Bío can do with Pinot Noir.

Full and stocky on the nose, with a mild pine and juniper accent. The palate features good feel and thickness, while the raspberry and plum flavors are complete and juicy. Dry and spicy on the finish, and correct within the global pool of Pinot Noir.

Ripe and pure with blackberry and olive aromas, and the flavors of black fruits mixed with some meatiness and cola are true and tasty. The feel is a touch racy and acidic, but that’s working to keep this balanced.

Nice berry fruit aromas with a touch of sweetness set this off in good form. The palate is solid and well balanced in terms of feel, while flavors of cassis and berry show a little bit of oak-based vanilla. Textbook and straight from central casting, but satisfying and not the least bit difficult.

A different breed of cat. Made from organic fruit, Lenga shows spearmint, wet clay and a light leafiness along with elegant, unforced red-fruit aromas. The palate drips rather than oozes with red cherry and plum, while the finish is light, dusty and elegant. A more reserved, intellectual wine than most bottlings that run $15.

Standard aromas of berry fruit, leather, herbs and olive are textbook Chile, while the palate shows some tannic clamp in support of earthy, mildly herbal cassis and berry flavors. Mint, warm leather and herbs carry the finish. Good for the price.
