Grasso Fratelli 2008 Vallegrande Nebbiolo (Barbaresco)

  • Online Exclusive
This is an interesting and potentially very beautiful wine that probably needs many more years of cellar aging before it is fully formed. At this young stage it shows raw notes of rhubarb, cola and spice backed by dark licorice overtones. It’s drying and tight with jackhammer tannins.  — M.L.  (9/1/2011)

Grasso Fratelli 1999 Nebbiolo (Barbaresco)

  1. $30
Cherries and dark chocolate mingle in this tightly coiled, muscular wine that needs 5–8 years to strut its stuff. Anise notes add complexity, while the finish is long and filled with firm but ripe tannins.  — W.E.  (4/2/2004)

Grasso Fratelli 1999 Bricco Spessa Nebbiolo (Barbaresco)

  1. $36
Features a complex and intriguing nose, filled with aromas of graham crackers, toast and hints of cherries and herbs, but it’s a bit grapy and unformed on the palate, with a loose structure that doesn't offer the structure expected of a top-flight Barbaresco. It’s good and ready to drink, just doesn't fit the classic mold.  — W.E.  (4/2/2004)

Grasso Fratelli 2007 Vallegrande Nebbiolo (Barbaresco)

Here is a very nicely balanced Barbaresco with sweet spice notes and plump fruit tones of wild berry, cherry and blackberry. What the wine offers in harmony, it lacks in overt intensity: it shows flat, broad character in the mouth with wet earth and mineral tones on the finish.  — M.L.  (12/1/2010)
