Greenwood Ridge 2003 Late Harvest White Riesling (Mendocino Ridge)

  1. $25
Wonderfully rich and decadent in botrytis and fruit, just bursting with apricot jam, orange liqueur, honey, vanilla and smoky oak flavors. Pretty sweet, but never cloys due to the refreshing acidity. Totally addictive with vanilla ice cream.  — S.H.  (2/1/2005)

Greenwood Ridge 1996 Merlot (Mendocino Ridge)

  1. $22
This Anderson Valley producer has a very good reputation but still manages to keep things reasonable; if this wine had come from Napa, it would likely be priced above $30. It has soft plum and smoke aromas, and complex tar and blackberry flavors. The tannins are soft. Overall it’s delicious.  — W.E.  (11/15/1999)

Greenwood Ridge 2006 Scherrer Vineyards Zinfandel (Sonoma County)

  1. $25
Greenwood Ridge does a terrific job with Scherrer’s Alexander Valley Zin grapes, capturing the intensity of these century vines while maintaining balance. The flavors are powerful, of wild summer red, blue and black berries, crushed pepper, Asian spices, crème de cassis, licorice and cola. Enjoy this potent wine now through 2014, before it loses its fruit.  — S.H.  (4/1/2008)

Greenwood Ridge 1999 Late Harvest Riesling (Mendocino Ridge)

  1. $24
Gosh, this is as good as most southerly appellations, including Napa, get in a botrytis-infected wine. Intense flavors of apricots and wild honey and vanilla, and super acidity for it to bounce off. Pretty darned sweet, beerenauslese level. One sip is not enough. —S.H.  — S.H.  (5/1/2002)

Greenwood Ridge 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendocino Ridge)

  1. $30
Reminiscent of the old Martini Cabs from Napa Valley. Just oozes the juiciest, sweetest cassis, and drinks velvety-soft even in youth, with beautifully dry, dusty tannins. Not quite up to par with Napa’s best in terms of depth and complexity, but getting close. —S.H.  — S.H.  (5/1/2002)

Greenwood Ridge 2004 Sauvignon Blanc (Anderson Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $16
Hard to imagine a zestier, more refreshing dry white wine than this. It’s brilliant in zingy acids, with richly textured flavors of lemons and limes, gooseberries and pineapples. A little oak adds enough smoky vanilla and buttery wood spice to round this wine off.  — S.H.  (12/31/2005)

Greenwood Ridge 2008 Sauvignon Blanc (Anderson Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $18
This is a beautiful, crisp Sauvignon Blanc, one of the best out there at this price. It shows clean, crisp acidity and a wonderful, mouth-scouring minerality, with rich flavors of Meyer lemon pie, Key lime yogurt and vanilla. Compelling and so food-friendly.  — S.H.  (7/1/2010)

Greenwood Ridge 2007 Scherrer Vineyards Zinfandel (Sonoma County)

  1. $27
So ripe, it smells and tastes almost Porty. But stays dry and balanced, with a blast of black currant, beef jerky, cocoa and pepper flavors that are wrapped into firm tannins. A fine example of a big, lusty Sonoma Zinfandel.  — S.H.  (4/1/2009)
