Guardian Peak 2006 Shiraz (Western Cape)
-
$15
A gorgeous nose of plums, chocolate and red fruit leads on this affordable Shiraz from the Cape. In the mouth, the wine is a combination of savory spice and tobacco, plum and chocolate. Mouthfilling and full of dimension, the wine has enough structure to age, and will pair well with smoked meats, stews and heartier fare.

Guardian Peak 2004 Lapa Cabernet Sauvignon (Stellenbosch)
-
$33
Owned by the same team that makes the Ernie Els wines, the Guardian Peak winery concentrates mainly on Rhône grapes. But it also produces this Cabernet Sauvignon, which is a ripely smooth wine, packed with dusty tannins and a ripe, jammy, densely fruity character that is very Australian in style.

Guardian Peak 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah (Stellenbosch)

This has a lovely nose of cocoa, endive and black plum, and upon palate entry, the acidity is almost spritzy. The flavors are where the gratification is, with blackberries, allspice, black plums, baking chocolate, raisins and dried herbs, all with measure of rich sweetness. Charry herbs and black fruit combine on the finish.

Guardian Peak 2005 Lapa Cabernet Sauvignon (Western Cape)
-
$37
Big, bold and in the style of a Napa Cabernet, this offering has a no-nonsense nose of raspberry and spice that jumps out of the glass. On the palate, the wine is powerful but smooth, with flavors of toasted oak, cinnamon and bright berry, and the finish is impressive. Hold for 2–5 years. Imported by Terlato Wines International.
