Haras 2005 Albis Cabernet Sauvignon-Carmenère (Maipo Valley)
-
$47
This mature blend of Cabernet and Carmenère shows classic Maipo characteristics on the nose and palate. It smells foresty and spicy, with cola, tobacco, olive and earthy, leathery berry aromas. Tastes rooty and like fruitcake, with coffee, spice and raisin flavors. Legitimately complex but leafy and earthy. Drink now through 2014.

Haras 2007 Elegance Red (Maipo Valley)

$62
Dark and earthy up front, with aromas of blackberry, hard spices and fresh tomato. The palate is jammy and deep, with brimming tannins supporting earthy, woodsy flavors of blackberry, moss and licorice. Flattens out somewhat on the finish, turning heavier and more rich. Drink over the next two years.

Smells a little volatile, but with airing there’s enough baked fruit, leafiness, olive and tobacco to set things straight. Choppy and tannic on the palate, with herbal flavors of casssis, coffee and toast. Leafy and tasting of tobacco and olives on the finish. Drink now; contains 23% Syrah and Cab Franc in addition to CS and Carmenère.

Haras 2006 Character Cabernet Sauvignon-Carmenère (Maipo Valley)

$22
Very Maipo-like in aromatics, with olive, leather, desert shrubs and basil, while the palate is tight, driven, acidic and tough. Dense and herbal in terms of flavors, with black fruit and oregano notes that fade on the finish. Extremely potent and muscular, but as the name suggests, it has character.
