Harlequin 2003 Minick Vineyard Syrah (Yakima Valley)

  1. $28
Done in an Australian Shiraz style, like the McCrea Boushey Grande Cote. It’s big, lush and ripe (14.6% alcohol) and fashioned in a surefire, consumer-pleasing style. Lush, sweet fruit brings on the heat in the finish, but what flavor!  — P.G.  (12/15/2005)

Harlequin 2003 Sundance Vineyard Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $28
A north-facing vineyard gives grapes extended hang time and moderates the high Wahluke heat. It’s 100% Syrah, 30% whole cluster fermented in 20% new French oak. Good, juicy, with very tart, snappy cranberry/raspberry flavors. Lovely nuances of wet earth, black tea and soy. A substantial, ageworthy effort.  — P.G.  (12/15/2005)

Harlequin 2003 Cuvée Alexander Red (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $29
The Cuvée Alexander blend is 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 55% Merlot and 9% Cab Franc. Dark and roasted, thick and jammy, it bursts with ripe blackberry fruit flavors. This rich, expansive fruit is nicely matched to toasty oak, laced with layers of smoke, coffee grounds and licorice.  — P.G.  (3/1/2007)

Harlequin 2003 Claret Red (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $18
Shows deep color and concentration. The nose carries the strength of the fruity richness, effusive with ripe berry and cherry scents, along with a whiff of chocolate. Everything is balanced—fruit, acid, tannin and oak—and the wine stands up a bit stiffly right now but shows good concentration. Should continue to improve over the next five or six years. Blend of 59%…  — P.G.  (3/1/2007)

Harlequin 2002 Sundance Vineyard Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $30
Features a slightly lifted, floral nose, filled with candied berries and spice. Raspberry and strawberry flavors on the midpalate lack a bit of depth but finish with a charming vanilla flourish.  — W.E.  (9/1/2005)
