Hidden Mountain Ranch 1998 Dante Dusi Vineyard Zinfandel (Paso Robles)
Price
$20
A classic old-style Zin; it seems like a field blend despite the varietal name. Has outsized fruit that’s ultraripe and intense, ranging from blackberry and plum into prune and raisin. Dense, rich and bursting with flavor. Heady at 14.4% alcohol.

Hidden Mountain Ranch 1997 Chardonnay (San Luis Obispo)
Price
$11
Smells earthy and herbal, with green or stalky notes riding over a tangerine and oak core. Spicy, fruity and soft. Pretty flavors in a country-style wine whose price won’t break the bank.

Hidden Mountain Ranch 1997 Zinfandel (California)
Price
$16
Has pretty Zin aromas. Rich and fruity, and becomes almost superripe in the midpalate, where raisiny, overextracted flavors kick in with Port-like intensity and heat. A big wine that’s a little off-balance; finishes hot.
