Holly's Hill 2009 Classique Mourvèdre (El Dorado)

  1. $20
Now we’re talking. A robust yet restrained take on Mourvèdre from a Rhône specialist in El Dorado, this wine rocks through and through, tasting of dark cherry tart and following that up with excellent texture and length. A 100% version of the variety that might convert doubters of this grape and further prove pockets of the Sierra Foothills’ potential are real…  — V.B.  (11/1/2011)

Holly's Hill 2009 Estate Grenache (El Dorado)

  1. $20
This Sierra Foothills Grenache Noir, as it’s labeled, has an intense, grapey nose, its taste silky, smooth and juicy with decent length and texture, though the wine could use more layers. Estate-grown, this is an interesting producer of Rhône varieties in El Dorado, this wine blended with 8% Mourvedre and 1% Petite Sirah.  — V.B.  (11/1/2011)

Holly's Hill 2009 Estate Roussanne (El Dorado)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $18
This is a dry, clean, crisp Roussanne wine whose dominant flavors are of oranges and apricots. Oak brings additional notes of vanilla and buttered toast. It’s a good, elegant wine to try as an alternative to Chardonnay.  — S.H.  (12/15/2010)

Holly's Hill 2009 Patriarche Blanc White (El Dorado)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $25
This is one of those wines that taste sweet and dry at the same time. There’s superripe orange and pineapple marmalade fruit, but then clean acidity and a stony minerality wash over the palate, making the finish dry. It’s an interesting blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier.  — S.H.  (12/15/2010)

Holly's Hill 1999 Zinfandel (Amador County)

  1. $17
There’s always a sense of anticipation in opening a new Sierra Foothills Zin, and this one lives up to the reputation. It’s very strong and fruity, with huge aromas and flavors of wild berries, and it also has those raisiny, Port-like notes so common to this area. Despite the 15% alcohol, it drinks bone dry, with the silkiest tannins imaginable.  — S.H.  (7/1/2002)

Holly's Hill 2003 Rosé Traditionnel Grenache (El Dorado)

  • Best Buy
  1. $12
Quite full-bodied for a blush, and strong in fruity, spicy flavors. The tastes of strawberries, raspberries and cinnamonny pepper flood the mouth, perked up by good acids. Fully dry, it’s a great food wine, and a great value.  — S.H.  (12/15/2004)

Holly's Hill 1999 Sangiovese (California)

  1. $17
Lightish in color, it opens with earthy, tobacco aromas, a hint of mint and, if you really concentrate, blackberries. It’s very limpid in the mouth, light as a feather, but the fruit is great. The concentrated blackberry taste is dry and flavorful, with wonderful acids. This is a very individualistic wine, and fun to drink.  — S.H.  (7/1/2002)

Holly's Hill 2000 Viognier (Amador County)

  1. $15
Quite spicy, with a toasty, herbal edge. Citrus, peach and melon notes add a fruity theme. Clean at the end.  — J.M.  (12/15/2002)
