Dark, oily and masculine up front, with aromas of black fruit and no overt sweetness. Definitely not a candied wine; the flavors of black cherry, raspberry and dark plum are solid almost to the point of being shrill. A little rough on the nose, but under the crusty cover there are scents of warm berries and plum. The palate is sort of narrow and bouncy, while the flavor profile is based on rubbery berry fruit and a pinch of herbs. More of a tight, driving wine than anything lush and plentiful. — M.S.
