Irony 2008 Merlot (Napa Valley)
Editors' Choice
Price
$14
A really nice Merlot, and at this price, you should run and buy some. It’s dry and smooth and balanced, with lush cherry, berry, mocha and cedar flavors. So easy to drink now with steaks or chops. Production was 4,900 cases.

Irony 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)
Price
$16
Pretty good for the price, with real upscale Napa character. Rich and dry in blackberry, blueberry and chocolate flavors, the wine has a polish and elegance that make it a good buy. Gets better as it airs, so decant for an hour or so.

Irony 2008 Chardonnay (Napa Valley)
Price
$13
Clean, brisk and balanced, with good varietal flavors of pineapples, limes, peaches and exotic tropical fruits, brightened with zesty acidity. This is a good price for a classic California Chardonnay.

Irony 2008 Pinot Noir (Monterey County)
Price
$15
Very dry, crisp and elegantly structured, this Pinot Noir can be had at a pretty good price. It has modest flavors of cherries, tobacco and spices, but is a little unripe, with hints of green tomato and white pepper.

Irony 2002 Merlot (Napa Valley)
Price
$16
This is a good approximation of more costly Napa reds. It’s rich in cherry, blackberry and mocha flavors, and dry, with a touch of smoky oak. There’s good value for the money. From Delicato.

Irony 2004 Merlot (Napa Valley)
Price
$16
This is a pretty good buy for a Merlot that shows lots of polish and sophistication. It has savory black cherry, currant, cola and spice flavors. The tannins are a little rugged and green, so it loses some points.

Irony 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)
Price
$16
A perfectly fine everyday Cabernet, with juicy fruit and berry flavors and a rich, smooth coating of tannins. It’s a little minty and green, but you won’t notice when you have it with ketchup and cheese on a burger.
