Isenhower Cellars 2004 River Beauty Syrah (Horse Heaven Hills)

  1. $32
Isenhower changes the vineyard sources for this wine from year to year. This is the first Horse Heaven Hills version I’ve tasted, and it’s right down the heart of the plate as far as Washington Syrah is concerned. The complex mix of spice, herb and wild fruits is bolstered by peppery tannins and lively acids. A truly wonderful wine that seems both poised and racy…  — P.G.  (3/1/2007)

Isenhower Cellars 2004 Bachelor's Button Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $32
This is pure Cabernet planted in 1972. There is very little Cab in the country that old, and it’s a thrill to taste it. The scents show almost-indefinable old vine character—a kind of brambly, delicate, nuanced mix of herb and fruit that turns up in old vine Zins, but here without the excess alcohol. Beautifully ripe and detailed.  — P.G.  (11/1/2007)

Isenhower Cellars 2003 River Beauty Red (Red Mountain)

  1. $32
The Syrah is blended with a generous (30%) portion of Mourvèdre. It’s a very floral wine, plump and rich. The flower scents lead into ripe flavors of blueberries, cherries, plums and more. Sophisticated, it has just the right touch of fresh herbs to add interest and complexity.  — P.G.  (4/1/2006)

Isenhower Cellars 2006 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Roussanne (Red Mountain)

  1. $22
From Tablas Creek cuttings, this outstanding Roussanne is intentionally picked early enough to preserve acidity, minerality and to keep the alcohol at a sensible level. Fragrant with acacia, white peach and pear, this elegant wine skips lightly across the palate, but has a density of flavor that carries well into the lingering finish.  — P.G.  (11/1/2007)

Isenhower Cellars 2000 Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $25
Another fine effort from this new Walla Walla winery. Half Red Mountain and half Walla Walla fruit, it is smooth and polished, with sweet, spicy, raspberry/strawberry/cherry flavors. Tangy and delicious through a very pretty finish. —P.G.  — P.G.  (9/1/2002)

Isenhower Cellars 2005 Snapdragon White (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $18
This year’s Snapdragon is a 55-45 Roussanne/Viognier blend—racier than the ’04 but just as tasty, with a mouth-cleaning, yeasty freshness. The fruit is light and interesting, a mix of pink grapefruit, pineapple, green apple and a lick of honey.  — P.G.  (3/1/2007)

Isenhower Cellars 2001 Wild Alfalfa Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $25
Beautiful fruit is the star here, showing complex flavors of blackberry, brambleberry and loganberry, nicely set off against sweet oak. Just a perfect balance, with some life ahead, but why wait. It’s really a treasure right now.  — P.G.  (9/1/2004)

Isenhower Cellars 1999 Merlot (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $22
Plump black cherry fruit stands out, buttressed with firm tannins and flavors of tar, toast, smoke and coffee. There is plenty of oak, with an appealing hint of bitterness. The fruit is classic Washington Merlot, pure and powerful rather than soft and pretty.  — P.G.  (9/1/2002)
