J. Scott Cellars 2008 Viognier (Rogue Valley)

  1. $18
Though it is listed at 14.2% alcohol, this is a pretty wine, with feminine grace rather than masculine muscle. Floral and fresh, it smells like fresh lemons and white peaches and flavors follow right along in that same vein. Balanced and polished, it shows exemplary winemaking skills on the part of Jonathan Scott Oberlander.  — P.G.  (10/1/2010)

J. Scott Cellars 2008 Pinot Blanc (Willamette Valley)

  • Best Buy
  1. $14
Dry, delicate, with a fine-tuned palate suggestive of a German wine, this lovely Pinot Blanc mixes citrus and pear in the body, and rolls into a graceful finish with juicy acidity. The length and mouthfeel are European; the fruit definitely New World.  — P.G.  (10/1/2010)

J. Scott Cellars 2008 Syrah (Rogue Valley)

  1. $22
Aromas of spice cake, licorice, moist earth, pie cherries and kirsch, with flavors that follow suit. A luxurious wine, bursting with flavor, tannic and just a bit pruney. This is a love it or hate it style; you pick.  — P.G.  (10/1/2011)

J. Scott Cellars 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Rogue Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $27
Rogue Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has yet to carve out any sort of reputation for itself, and has been prone to herbaceous, even vegetal fruit with aggressively rough tannins. Winemaker Jonathan Oberlander has gone a ways toward taming them, rounding out the fruit, and crafting a complete and satisfying wine. Its best feature is the nose, complex, varietal and…  — P.G.  (10/1/2010)

J. Scott Cellars 2009 Roussanne (Washington/Oregon)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $18
Washington Roussanne, which is two thirds of the blend here, has sharp edges and some phenolic bite – it’s not a round, fruity style. Take that into account, but pair this firm, woodsy, slightly bitter wine with pork roast or grilled chops and you’ll have a match made in heaven.  — P.G.  (12/22/2011)

J. Scott Cellars 2009 Susan's Vineyard Pinot Noir (Southern Oregon)

  1. $20
A rustic but flavorful Pinot Noir from Southern Oregon. Plenty of stem and earth flavors, along with pie cherry fruit, and a wide wash of chocolate from the barrels. It’s all rendered in broad, flavorful strokes.  — P.G.  (10/1/2011)

J. Scott Cellars 2008 Roussanne (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $18
Most likely sourced from Washington grapes, this is plump and pleasing, peachy and polished. Ripe, round fruit flavors roll into a bright, slightly hot finish. Peach skin phenolics linger in the mouth, putting a fine edge on the flavors and setting up the palate for the next sip.  — P.G.  (10/1/2010)

J. Scott Cellars 2009 Petite Sirah (Rogue Valley)

  1. $26
Oregon Petite Sirah is certainly an outrider, but this is a commendable effort. It captures the dense blackberry fruit of the grape, wrangles the thick tannins into some sort of rough balance, and adds a lick of espresso to the finish. Blocky, tasty and proportionate.  — P.G.  (10/1/2011)
