This is a smooth, lightweight wine, but still waters run deep: The talcy tannins provide structure to the dry palate of leather, bitter cocoa, apple skin. The toasty, leathery finish has a hint of fresh mint leaf.

Jacobsdal has been making wine for nearly four decades and with this Pinotage, the producer’s years of experience show. The aromas are typical of South African Pinotage: smoke, banana, red berry and plum. Flavors of raspberry and cherry are framed by structured but subtle tannins. The wine is assertive but avoids the edge of many Pinotages.

This wine emphasizes some of the tougher elements of the Pinotage aroma/flavor profile, with lots of barnyard, earth and leather. The light cherry fruit struggles to balance with the rustic notes.
