Josef Ehmoser 2008 Aurum Grüner Veltliner (Wagram-Donauland)
Online Exclusive
Price
$41
The late-harvest Aurum is Josef Ehmoser’s flagship. The newly released 2008 is bold and ripe, the acidity of the intense fruit cutting through herbs, spice, vanilla and tropical fruits. It is definitely from super-ripe fruit, but Ehmoser manages to retain a delicious balance. Screwcap. Imported by Magellan Wine Imports.

Josef Ehmoser 2005 Hohenberg Grüner Veltliner (Donauland)
Editors' Choice
Price
$23
Big, rich and oily, with intense aromas of smoke and nut oil that build on the palate into flavors of peach kernel, spice and layers of minerality. A long, mouthcoating finish cinches this wine’s quality. The only catch is that of 800 cases produced, only 25 are scheduled to be imported to the U.S.

Josef Ehmoser 2006 Aurum Grüner Veltliner (Wagram-Donauland)
Cellar Selection
Price
$38
Despite its high alcohol, this wine manages to preserve its balance. That’s because the Grüner acidity creeps through the weight. With his top wine, Ehmoser goes for a tropical fruit profile here, with mangos on top of vanilla and spice. There’s structure too, which suggests this powerful wine could age for 2–3 years.

Josef Ehmoser 2004 Aurum Grüner Veltliner (Donauland)
Editors' Choice
Price
$32
Slighty nutty-smelling at first, but that gives way to floral, fresh green notes alongside citrus and pear. It’s on the full-bodied side, with pear and melon fruit accented by greens and a dusting of mineral. Long on the finish, seeming to build in intensity over time. Imported by Magellan Wine Imports.

This is a full-bodied wine with a citrus streak of acidity to go with peach and apricot flavors. It is rich, just hinting at minerality, generous in mouthfeel.

Josef Ehmoser 2008 Hohenberg Grüner Veltliner (Wagram-Donauland)
Online Exclusive
Price
$23
A big, ripe, full-bodied wine from a single vineyard on the slopes of the Wagram, this is dominated by pears, concentrated spice and a lively lift of tight acidity. It’s an impressive, vital wine, still in its infancy. Screwcap. Imported by Magellan Wine Imports.
