Josetta Saffirio 2006 Persiera Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $70
With a strong line of women at the helm of the winery, Josetta Saffirio is now run by the young Sara Vezza. Her Barolo Persiera is particularly impressive thanks to its bold, pulsing fruit nuances and the refined nature of its spice, tobacco and cola elements. The wine finishes with long floral flavors and polished tannins.  — M.L.  (12/1/2010)

Josetta Saffirio 2006 Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  1. $35
Josetta Saffirio delivers an impressive portfolio of wines that show the fruits of careful work in the vineyard and the winery. This base Barolo from the Monforte d’Alba area opens with lush fruit tones of cherry, wild berries, cassis and spice. What sets this expression apart is the attractive contrast between the wine’s juicy nose and its drying mouthfeel.  — M.L.  (12/1/2010)

Josetta Saffirio 2007 Nebbiolo (Barolo)

Josetta Saffirio’s classic Barolo (from the Monforte d’Alba area of the Langhe) opens with enticing notes of chocolate, mocha and smoky pipe tobacco. There’s a delicate touch of white mineral or chalk that gives the wine backbone and a drying feel on the close.  — M.L.  (9/1/2011)

Josetta Saffirio 2007 Persiera Nebbiolo (Barolo)

Representing a stylistic break from last vintage, this edition of Barolo Persiera offers more soapy, floral tones of violets and lavender followed by barrel aromas of moist earth and spice. The 2006 vintage seemed bolder and more extracted. This edition is also less intense, but more streamlined and focused on the close.  — M.L.  (9/1/2011)
