J.u.H.A. Strub 2001 Niersteiner Paterberg Spätlese Three-Star Riesling (Rheinhessen)

  1. $27
. Strub was successful across the board in 2001, and this three-star spätlese is one of its best efforts. Hints of minerals and diesel mark the nose, while the flavors are more fruit-driven, featuring apple and pineapple. The mouthfeel is lush; the finish long and chalky. —J.C.  — J.C.  (3/1/2003)

J.u.H.A. Strub 2001 Niersteiner Kabinett Riesling (Rheinhessen)

  1. $13
Almost dry-seeming (a conscious effort on the part of the importer), this wine is a great bargain. (Keep in mind you’re getting 33% more than in a 750-ml bottle.) Although a bit quiet on the nose, the flavors are zippy and pure, blending limes and peaches with a minerally, graphite note and a chalky finish. Best Buy. —J.C.  — J.C.  (3/1/2003)
