Kana 2008 Masterpiece Elephant Mountain Vineyard Reserve White (Yakima Valley)

Impressive. This Viognier/Marsanne/Roussanne blend showcases substantial, layered fruit flavors of citrus skin, citrus pulp, grapefruit and white peach. Kana 2006 Scarlet Fire Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Reserve Red (Red Mountain)

A big (15.6% alcohol) and assertive Rhône blend. Red Mountain’s iconic Ciel du Cheval vineyard is the source of the excellent fruit, which brings a mix of black pepper, wild ferns, herbs, tart raspberries and cold stone. Penetrating and compact. — P.G. (9/1/2010)

Kana 2008 Katie Mae White Table Wine Riesling (Columbia Valley (WA))

Though labeled simply White Table Wine, this is all Riesling, done in an off-dry (3.1% residual sugar) style. The fruit is a powerful burst of apricot and peach, annotated with honey and caramel apples. The winery has substantially changed the blend and vineyard sources in 2004, and this is a better Dark Star than the last couple of vintages. It’s roughly two-thirds Syrah, with Mourvèdre and Grenache filling in the final third of the blend.
