Krug 1998 Clos du Mesnil Chardonnay (Champagne)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $1400
A wine that has created its own universe. It has a unique, special softness that allies with the total purity that comes from a small, enclosed single vineyard. The fruit is almost irrelevant here, because it comes as part of a much deeper complexity. This is a great wine, at the summit of Champagne, a sublime, unforgettable experience.  — R.V.  (12/1/2010)

Krug 1981 Collection Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $500
This is the current vintage of the limited-release Collection series, in which wines are held in stock, in bottle, by Krug for later release. This fabulous 1981 is mature, but still evolving. Gold in color, it is toasty, integrating flavors of nuts, cocoa and toffee, along with still fresh acidity.  — R.V.  (11/1/2006)

Krug 1995 Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $190
A mature, honeyed nose shows how rich and open this beautiful wine is. It is rich and toasty, with layers of citrus and very ripe, almost honeyed, fruit. It is lively and fresh, with excellent structure. Ready to drink.  — R.V.  (11/1/2006)

Krug 1990 Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $205
A full, rich wine, that brings together the Krug style with its vanilla flavors and power with the great 1990 vintage. After 14 years, this wine is developing still, hinting at toast along with flavors of peach, nuts and a touch of honey. It is intense, very much a food Champagne, but still retains freshness and the potential for further aging.  — R.V.  (12/1/2004)

Krug 1998 Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $350
Although the aromas are toasty, the flavors are still so fresh, rich, complex. This is a wonderful expression of taut minerality, pure citrus zest and then a wood-toast character that gives the wine both richness and sophistication. Given the fresh, intense fruit, this will certainly age for many years.  — R.V.  (12/1/2010)

Krug NV Grande Cuvée Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

Resplendent in its new shiny gold label, Krug is a majestic Champagne. Its velvet texture, dominated by mature flavors, is toasty and rich, dense and complex. In the mouth, its beautiful roasted almond, spice and ripe pears all balance impressively. Could the wine be getting even better? No question—this is still one of the greatest nonvintage Champagnes.  — R.V.  (12/1/2008)

Krug 1989 Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $500
This is a classic food Champagne, hugely rich, toasty, generous. Yes, there is acidity and minerality, but these individual factors are less important than the overall opulence of this intense wine. It is still amazingly young, fresh and vibrant, but also so powerful.  — R.V.  (11/1/2006)

Krug NV Brut Rosé Sparkling (Champagne)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $282
Krug Rosé has always been seen as the food rosé without rival. And so it remains. The secret is in the richness of the fruit, the layers of toastiness and the concentration of flavors. Fruit is there, but mature toastiness is more important in this wine, which layers acidity, and ripe fruit along with great style.  — R.V.  (12/1/2004)
