La Giaretta 2003 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)
Editors' Choice
Price
$23
La Giaretta is an up-and-coming winery in full evolution with a modern approach and excellent pricing. There are deep oak aromas here that thankfully do not overwhelm delicate notes of cherry cola, cough drop, Indian spice, herbal infusion and almond. This is a spice-driven wine with a velvety texture and lively fruit on the finish.

La Giaretta 2006 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)
Online Exclusive
Price
$40
Here’s a very nice Amarone that moves slowly over the palate imparting aromas of red fruit, plum, cinnamon and clove along the way. Only that bitter touch of acidity on the end is slightly out of place.

La Giaretta 2000 I Quadretti Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)
Price
$35
Pretty color and density are backed by mismatched aromas of soy sauce, ginger, steak sauce and beef jerky. It’s a big, chewy wine in the mouth with attractive succulence and a fresh, long-lasting finish.

La Giaretta 2004 I Quadretti Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)
Online Exclusive
Price
$58
Bright acidity firm tannins are backed by jammy fruit aromas and a healthy dose of spicy oak tones. The intensity is here but the integration is slightly off for a wine of this importance.

La Giaretta 2007 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)
Price
$40
There’s a very spicy, sassy element to this Amarone by La Giaretta that comes across as mesquite smoke, teriyaki, Spanish cedar and hummus. The wine is tight and taut on the close with a delicate prune-like aftertaste.
