The label declares this a “Pinotage dessert wine…fortified with Pinotage spirit.” The firm, plummy fruit has just a bit of eucalyptus running along the edges, and is completed with notes of cigar smoke and toast, wrapped in white pepper tannins. Though the varietal character is spot-on, the sweetness does not seem fully integrated.

A short note of bitters is overcome by the cedar, toast, pithy strawberry and light cherry notes on the palate. The slight presence of vanilla and cinnamon throughout is uplifting, and the strawberry notes carry through to the end. Without a doubt, a delicious starter sparkling rosé.

The opening bouquet has an almost quinine-like perfume. On the tongue it's a bit thin, with green pepper and citrus notes that fail to mesh in a complimentary manner. A Cape Sauvignon Blanc that aims high, for a point somewhere between Sancerre and Marlborough, but veers off course.
