Laird 2007 Mast Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon (Yountville)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $70
Very concentrated and compact in fruit, with a molten core of blackberries and cassis. A dramatic, flashy wine, but the tannins are impossibly tight and astringent. There’s beautiful, classic, almost old-fashioned structure here, but don’t even think of opening it until at least 2015.  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)

Laird 1999 Rutherford Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

  1. $75
Claret-style and elegant, this Cab’s approachable enough to drink now. Dried green herbs and earth coat black and red plum on the nose; red berries, anise and white pepper shine on the palate. Spicy oak-derived goodness smolders on the finish. Only 275 cases produced.  — D.T.  (6/1/2002)

Laird 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Yountville)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $48
Richly tannic and dry, this Cabernet has the hallmarks of a wine that needs time to develop. It’s chunky and astringent now, with fresh, tart flavors of blackberries, cherries and currants, and an overlay of smoky oak. Should be fine in 6–7 years.  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)

Laird 2009 Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $16
Dry and tart in acids, with lemon Lifesaver candy, lemongrass, hay, white pepper and vanilla aromas and flavors. A clean, brisk Sauvignon Blanc to drink as an appetizer. Good with Asian fare.  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)

Laird 2008 Red Hen Ranch Chardonnay (Oak Knoll)

  1. $35
Soft and rich, this Chardonnay shows intricately layered flavors of buttered toast, grilled peaches, orange jam, honeysuckle flowers and cinnamon. An opulent wine to drink now.  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)

Laird 1999 Cold Creek Chardonnay (Carneros)

  1. $44
This Carneros Chardonnay shows solid mainstream style. Apple, caramel and mint aromas on the nose open to apple, coconut and menthol-oak flavors. The mouthfeel is full, though some tasters thought more big than full. Toasty new oak takes the lead, and a touch of heat shows on the back end.  — W.E.  (7/1/2001)

Laird 2008 Cold Creek Ranch Chardonnay (Los Carneros)

  1. $30
A rich, buttery Chardonnay, brimming with well-oaked pineapple, honey, créme brûlée and spice flavors, brightened with acidity. A real crowd pleaser.  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)

Laird 2004 Cold Creek Ranch Pinot Grigio (Carneros)

  1. $16
Here’s a PG that’s considerably drier and more acidic than most. There’s a real need for this kind of wine, with its lime zest, fig and white peppery-spice flavors and cleansing, crisp elegance.  — S.H.  (2/1/2006)
