Wow. This is a steal, and a dead-ringer for a top Alsace Gewürztraminer. Effusive scents of lychees and rose petals are textbook Gewürz; the weight and viscosity on the palate provide heft and the flavors linger delicately on the finish, without any bitterness at all.

Rather honeyed and peachy, with lychee and some extremely ripe grapefruit scents that presage broad, mouthfilling flavors of lychee, stone fruits and citrus. With only 6.5 g/l of residual sugar, this weighty wine comes across as almost dry, allowing the emphasis to be on the bold notes of melon, pear and citrus. It’s rich without being overtly sweet, then finishes clean, adding a touch of white pepper to the mix. Drink now–2012.

Lawson’s Gewürztraminer is always near the top of its class, and the 2009 offers expressive scents of lychee and ginger married to a powerful, round, nearly dry palate. Finishes long and spicy. Drink it over the next couple of years for its exuberance.

Contrary to many Marlborough SBs, which start herbal and show fruitier on the palate, this one goes theother direction, from melon and fig on the nose, with just a suggestion of grassiness, to leafy notes that grow in intensity on the finish. Nicely suited to match with summer salads.

Yet another fine effort from this Marlborough winery, the 2002 Sauvignon Blanc is a big, rich, mouthfilling wine. Hints of honey and smoke accent gooseberries and nectarines. Drink now.

Very good Pinot at a very good price. It’s actually somewhat reminiscent of some Russian River Valley examples, with ample cherry and cola flavors amplified by hints of birch root and wintergreen. Caramel creeps in on the finish.
