Le Potazzine 2007 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $72
Here’s an austere, sophisticated wine, with a pretty garnet color and finely polished aromas of cassis, wild berry, cola, wet river stone, barbecue smoke and bresaola. There’s good complexity and integration and this Brunello delivers satisfying freshness and balanced acidity.  — M.L.  (5/1/2012)

Le Potazzine 2006 Gorelli Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

This shapely, opulent Brunello delivers soft texture and rich intensity that is highlighted by crisp aromas of sweet cherry, spice and dark vanilla bean. That soft roundness continues to the palate where the wine exhibits a smooth, velvety texture.  — M.L.  (4/1/2011)

Le Potazzine 2004 Riserva Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $120
Simple and straightforward aromas of red berry and mineral cap the aromatic nuances expressed in the Brunello Riserva. What the wine lacks is complexity, although it does feel rich, smooth and bright in the mouth. A Marc de Grazia selection; various American importers.  — M.L.  (10/1/2010)

Le Potazzine 2004 Gorelli Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $70
Giuseppe Gorelli’s Brunello tastes a bit ripe in 2004 with layers of dried figs, prunes, apricots and candied fruit. In the mouth, the wine is angular and raw in places because of the mature nature of its tannins, but it does close with surprisingly fresh notes of wild berry and underbrush that balance it out. Drink now.  — M.L.  (6/1/2009)

Le Potazzine 2003 Gorelli Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  • Online Exclusive
Slightly jammy aromas of mature berry set the stage for what ultimately proves to be a bold and well-structured Brunello. The wine delivers power and heft in the form of firm tannins and intense cherry flavors.  — M.L.  (5/1/2009)

Le Potazzine 2001 Gorelli Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $55
Aromatics are not very intense but do yield leather, earth, tobacco over cherry fruitiness with vigorous swirling. Moderately toasty, with sweet spice accents and a dry finish on this medium-bodied Brunello. There is harmony, but no poetry here. Imported by Vin Divino.  — W.E.  (4/1/2006)

Le Potazzine 2008 Gorelli Sangiovese Grosso (Rosso di Montalcino)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $28
There’s a sharp, brambly note here of forest green and sour cherry that eventually transforms into spice and blackberry as the wine spends more time in the glass. The mouthfeel is smooth and silky.  — M.L.  (10/1/2010)
