A beautiful, bargain-priced blend of Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo), Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa and Alvarelhão. Violet and jasmine perfumed, this wine is so, so pretty with just a stunning nose. In taste, there’s raspberry, strawberry and lilting layers of pepper and herbs. An intriguing wine well worth trying, made by Morgan Winery Winegrower Dan Lee.

Here’s a welcome addition to the New Wave of bone-dry, high-acid, floral-fruity wines, made from more obscure varieties that has been sweeping across California. It’s a very fine wine, firm and crisp and lemony, with just a slight kiss of oak. Terrifically versatile, and a sommelier’s dream.

This lovely Verdelho is perfumed with jasmine and apricot. It’s crisp and creamy while also tasting refreshing and light. The finish is all lime salt and minerality. Pour it at an outdoor soirée or sip it while cooking dinner.

Dry and sharp in acidity, this rustic wine needs rich meats and cheeses to clip its claws. Made from traditional Port varieties, it’s quite rich in cherry, red currant and spice flavors. An interesting wine, and one that you wish were made with greater attention to detail. The appellation is within Lodi.

This is a crisp, minerally wine you could drink as an interesting alternative to Sauvignon Blanc. It’s rich in citrus, apricot and floral flavors that finish with a honey, fruity flourish. Try with Asian fare.
