Liberty School 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles)

You get a lot of pleasure from this affordable Cab. It’s dry, moderate in alcohol which gives it a light mouthfeel, and quite pleasant in classic flavors of blackberries, currants and herbs, touched with smoky oak. Elegantly constructed, it’s one of the best Cabernets of the vintage at this price.  — S.H.  (2/1/2012)

Liberty School 2010 Chardonnay (Central Coast)

  • Best Buy
  1. $12
A really good value in a California Chardonnay. Blended with a touch of Viognier to add brightness, and fermented in a little new oak, it hits just the right notes for today’s popular taste. Slightly sweet in buttered toast and pineapple jam flavors, it’s balanced with crisp acidity and a stony minerality.  — S.H.  (2/1/2012)

Liberty School 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles)

Lots to like in this Cab. Few regions do a better job of ripening red wines than Paso Robles while keeping prices modest. This one, from the hilly, limestony west side, is softly rich in blackberry and cherry flavors wrapped in fine, sweet tannins. This is a good price for a Cab of this quality.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)

Great price for a Cabernet this nice. It’s dry, smooth and classic in blackberry and currant flavors, with a deft touch of smoky oak. Just a bit too acidic; a rich steak will help.  — S.H.  (3/1/2011)

Good price for a dry, crisp and flavor Chardonnay with some real fancy character. Flatters the palate with opulent pineapple jam, pear, lemon and orange fruit flavors, finished with rich oak.  — S.H.  (3/1/2011)

Liberty School 2007 Cuvee Red (Central Coast)

Here’s a Rhône blend that’s full of life and zest. It’s a clean, muscular sipper that completely satisfies with tannicly inspired flavors of blackberries, black currants, dark chocolate and pepper. A fine country-style wine with elements of elegance.  — S.H.  (6/1/2010)

Liberty School 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (California)

This is a good price for a Cab that’s dry, balanced and elegant. It’s obviously not a blockbuster, but the way the cherry, and blackberry flavors interact with oak and dried herbs makes the wine charming and even complex.  — S.H.  (12/15/2005)

Liberty School 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon (California)

Lots of richness and complexity in this lovely wine, which has flavors of ripe blackberries, cassis, roasted coffee, herbs and smoky oak. It’s quite dry, with a good grip of tannin.  — S.H.  (11/15/2004)
