An atypically light, delicate style of Riesling for the Pfalz, with lime and floral notes on the nose and a filigreed interplay of residual sugar and lithe acidity that lingers on the finish.

Tasted immediately prior to bottling, the 2007 Bird Label Riesling was highly aromatic, boasting hints of lime, apple, peach and dried spices. It’s on the sweet, ripe side, with more than 20 g/l of residual sugar, but admirably balanced by sharp acids. Delicious now, but should last through 2015.

Shows plenty of barrel influence in its brown sugar and cinnamon aromas, while the flavors run toward cherry, vanilla and coconut. There’s a bit of alcoholic warmth to the finish.

Whoa, is this a different animal from the Rieslings. Smells slightly cheesy and funky, but delivers fresh pineapple flavors. A well-made example from a variety that's a bit of an acquired taste.

Made partly from purchased wine, Lingenfelder’s Hare Label Gewürztraminer shows varietally correct aromas and flavors of roses, lychees and spice, but also a touch of alcoholic warmth on the finish. It’s a round, soft, ample wine that verges on fatness. Not imported.
