L'Ostal Cazes 2004 Red (Minervois La Liviniere)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $38
Beautifully concentrated aromas precede flavors of violets, pepper, sweet spice, plum and red berries. The wine is full and round in the mouth with excellent acidity and tannin. A little tight and closed right now, it should open up to be even more balanced and better integrated in 2–3 years.  — L.B.  (3/1/2009)

L'Ostal Cazes 2005 Estibals Red (Minervois)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $17
A ripe and rich wine with black cherry, strawberry, lilac and rosemary notes on the nose. The mouth is full with a satiny texture and hints of tea leaves, structured by firm tannins and medium acidity. Aged in French oak for 12 months, it has a long and evolving finish marked by a lovely vanilla note.  — L.B.  (3/1/2009)

L'Ostal Cazes 2003 Circus Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon (Vin de Pays d'Oc)

  1. $13
Fully ripe and New World clean, this 60-40 blend from the Languedoc is part of a new venture from the Bordeaux-based Cazes family. Vanilla and black cherry flavors seem a bit simple, but will amply satisfy basic burger needs. Imported by Palm Bay Imports.  — J.C.  (11/15/2005)

L'Ostal Cazes 2002 Red (Minervois La Liviniere)

  1. $30
This would be a nice everyday table wine if the price weren’t so high. Vanilla, dried spices and jammy berry fruit make a statement on the nose, but the fruit isn’t as assertive in the mouth, yielding some stewed berries and bright, lemony acids. The vintage was a difficult one, so look for better things from this label next year. Imported by Palm Bay Imports.  — J.C.  (11/15/2005)
