Loxarel NV 999 Brut Rosat Sparkling (Cava)

Good on the nose, with solid raspberry and nectarine aromas. The palate is spunky and alert, with juicy red-cherry, rhubarb and integrated spice flavors. It’s mostly a clean, basic, easy-to-drink bubbly, but it’s persistent, harmonious and commendable. Pinot Noir with Trepat is the grape mix.

Apple, spearmint, mixed greens and citrus carry the bouquet to a firm palate with dry papaya, lemon and herb flavors. Finishes with apple, lemon and bitterness. Very basic and quaffable, but nothing extraordinary.

A bit of baked corn and heft to the nose quickly fades, leading to a pithy palate of grapefruit and citrus peel. The finish shows more of the same pithiness, while overall it shows o.k. citrus character but not much else.

Raisiny, heavy stuff made from a mix of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It’s thick and awkward, with molasses on the nose then tomato, plum and herbal flavors. Lacks balance and mouthfeel while pouring on the weight.
