The Solvang area is warmish but with chilly nights. This beautiful Cab Franc shows why this variety may be Santa Ynez’s best red Bordeaux grape. Aromas of blackberry and cherry lead to sweet berry-cherry flavors that flood the palate and end with a flourish of ripe tannins. Its feminine charm is irresistable.

Drinks rich and juicy, with ripe berry, cherry and herb flavors and a round, smooth, supple mouthfeel. The finish is long and sweet with ripe berries.

Here’s a racy, dry Sauvignon Blanc at a good price for the quality. Crisp in coastal acidity, it shows lemon and lime flavors accented with honeysuckle sweetness, with a peppery finish and a hint of gooseberry.

I’m not sure why they held this Cab back a full four years, but it’s smooth and rich and drinkable now. With chocolate-infused cherry-cassis flavors, the wine is soft and gentle, with a finish of licorice and cinnamon spice.

With a rustic mouthfeel and lots of zesty spices, this fruity Cab Franc will easily wash down lusty dishes like short ribs, spare ribs and Szechuan beef.

Even nearing the age of four, this wine can’t quite overcome its rustic tannins and sharp finish, and never will. With rich blackberry and cassis flavors, it will wash down a nice steak.

Semi-sweet and simple, but clean. That about sums up this cherry and raspberry jam-flavored wine. It’s fine with burgers, and you can put a chill on it if you want to.
