From a new winery, this Pinot shows the classic structure of the 2005 vintage. It’s harmonious in the balance of a silky texture, crisp, coastal acidity, and smooth, voluptuous mouthfeel. But best of all are the flavors, a complex mélange of cherries, red currants, licorice, cola, cloves, pepper and smoky oak. Best now for its youthful vigor.

A very rich Pinot Noir with a solid core of ripe cherry pie filling, raspberry preserve, orange zest and vanilla oak flavors, accented with bright acidity and zesty baking spices. A flashy wine, but a little disjointed at this point. Give it several years to come around.

Lucienne 2007 Lone Oak Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Lucia Highlands)

Pinot Noir doesn’t get much riper in fruit than this. It detonates on the palate with a blast of raspberries and red cherries that taste like they were baked into a pie. Oak adds the usual rich notes of vanilla and caramel cream. Not particularly subtle, but decadent and delicious.

Lucienne 2007 Doctor's Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Lucia Highlands)

Delicious in raspberry and cherry jam flavors, with an elaborate coat of sweet, smoky, caramelized oak. Good acidity and smooth tannins make for fine structure. Could be drier and more complex, but it’s a hedonistic Pinot Noir with lots of flash.
