Very much a classic, high-quality Chilean Cabernet. The nose features traditional aromas of mint, tobacco, rubber band and herbs, but also deep black fruits. The acidity is right up to the max level, so the fruit flavors are pushed toward the red end of the spectrum, while accents of vanilla and dill are welcome. Some cola hints and heat work the finish, as do…

The vivid bright fruit that jumps at you is quite surprising. This is one of the more fruit-forward Chilean Chards around. From a close-to-the-coast vineyard in this red-wine-friendly valley, this wine succeeds where Maipo and other central valley whites do not. No flat body or asparagus on the nose; it’s all tropical fruit and melons, with perfect acidity. Best Buy.

Shockingly solid and rich, with very few flaws. Is it rustic, Rhône-style Syrah? Definitely not; it’s a heavy, extracted Aussie-style Shiraz with cassis, black plum and chocolate throughout. Even the finish is firm and sturdy, and despite 14% alcohol, it’s balanced.

Too pricey to qualify as a bargain, but pretty good for the price. There’s serious weight and malty qualities to this premium Cab, with cassis and wild blackberry on the palate. Slightly aggressive in the mouth, with firm tannins. Shows a spot of chocolate on the finish. Imported by William Grant & Sons, Inc.

Definitely shows its Leyda roots via citric, oceanic aromas and flavors of crisp celery, bell pepper, grapefruit and mango. It’s a bit softer on the palate than some coastal SBs out of Chile, but it’s still full of verve and clarity. A very good wine that shows the Leyda style with Sauvignon Blanc.

Savory and oaky, but with a nice mesquite scent and also some bacon and big black fruit aromas. Rich and voluminous in the mouth, with smoky, dark, roasted berry flavors. Savory, spicy and pretty big on the finish, and bullish as a whole.

Roasted, warm and rich, which is what we want from our Carmenère. The palate is dense and smacks down with mellow tannins, while flavors of roasted berry, smoked meats and herbs are textbook. There’s some heat and weight to the wine, but overall it’s big, solid and likable.

Toasty and sweet on the nose, with burnt brown sugar, leather, bacon and black fruit. The palate is rich and extracted but not overly heavy, and the flavors of dense, rich blackberry and clove are nice and warm. A little roasted on the finish but overall this is good warm-climate Syrah.
