Luna Beberide 2006 Art Mencía (Bierzo)
Price
$55
The bouquet has a distinct lemon, pine and herb element along with black fruit and mocha. It’s fairly snappy and tannic, with clipping bite but also fresh, floral flavors of blueberry and herbs. Toasty and long on the finish, with some herbal leftovers and licorice. By all evidence available, 2006 was a great vintage for Bierzo reds.

Luna Beberide 2007 Finca La Cuesta Red (Bierzo)
Price
$22
A winner and a fine value from Bierzo. Luna Beberide is a model producer, and this single-vineyard wine has a pretty nose of berry, mineral, bacon and herbs. The palate is exceedingly smooth and lush, while the ripe boysenberry and blackberry flavors are classy and finish well. What Mencía from Bierzo is all about.

Luna Beberide 2000 Tinto Red (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León)
Price
$46
Massive yet proportional, with olive, rubber and ripe black fruit on the manly bouquet. The palate is ponderous but tasty, with a huge dose of syrupy berry and black-plum flavors. Ripe as all get out, with firm tannins. To call it a powerhouse would be taking things lightly. Imported by Grapes of Spain.

Luna Beberide 2006 Mencía (Bierzo)
Best Buy
Price

Young and a bit fiery at first, but give it time in the glass and it unfolds in a way that you would never expect for a wine of this price. Medium-bodied without any harshness, it has Mencía’s typical soft tannins and berry compote flavors backed by a touch of char and vanilla. A super good wine that proudly represents Bierzo at the value level.

Here’s a really good, young Mencia that is sure to win you over. The nose is fully ripe and loaded with pure berry aromas. The juicy mouth is warm and meaty, with pure fruit and chewy tannins. Luna Beberide’s Mencia pinpoints the essence of modern Bierzo.

Luna Beberide 2008 Finca La Cuesta Red (Bierzo)
Price
$22
Big, chunky and dark on the nose, but smells monotone except for a floral hint. The palate shows nice body, saturation and grabby tannins to go with oak-infused flavors of black plum, cola and spice. Savory and rooty on the finish. A good restaurant wine, either by the glass or bottle.

Luna Beberide 2004 Mencía (Bierzo)

You won’t find a better, more affordable Bierzo than this. It carries true terroir, heft and solidity but it’s not that complicated or racy. Lush black fruit is what defines the palate, while the finish is textured and creamy. Really smacks of natural character and joy.

Price

Floral and not overpowering in style, with good red-fruit aromas. Feels smooth and silky, not edgy, with tasty berry flavors touched up by a dollop of oak and chocolate. A fresh, easy wine to sip by the glass or with casual tapas.
