M. Chapoutier Australia 1999 Mount Benson Shiraz (Australia)
Price
$30
Even and tangy, the quite dry, tart fruit sports white-pepper and tarragon accents in noted Rhône winemaker Michel Chapoutier’s Australian project. Crisp and high in acidity, this is slightly atypical but attractive Shiraz from down under, with a lighter, almost claret-like weight and sour-cherry, tobacco-tinged finish.

M. Chapoutier Australia 2000 Mount Benson Shiraz (Australia)
Price
$30
What do you get when a Rhône master heads to the Southern Hemisphere? Has black fruit and a pickle-barrel note on the nose, and plenty more black fruit in the mouth. Intensity falls off a bit on the finish, where there’s just some oak and plum skin.
