M. Cosentino 2001 M. Coz Meritage (Napa Valley)
Price
$120
This fabulous wine stuns in every respect. It’s sweet in black currant, plum, mocha and oak flavors, yet retains a balanced dryness. A stiff backbone of acidity provides life and zest, but the intricate tapestry of tannins has a soft, aged feel. Voluptuous in the mouth; will age and likely improve beyond 2010.

M. Cosentino 2002 Hoopes Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon (Oakville)
Cellar Selection
Price
$75
What a great job Mitch Cosentino does with Bordeaux varieties. This one continues the tradition. Rich and dramatic in cassis, cherry and toast, this balanced wine has smooth, polished tannins and a long finish. Remarkably good now, it should develop for many years.

M. Cosentino 2002 CE2V Meritage Red (Napa Valley)
Price
$100
Cosentino is one of Napa’s most consistent Cabernet producers. The CE2V, a vineyard bottling, always shows vintage variation. Based on Cabernet Sauvignon, the ’02 is a great success, immensely rich in concentrated cassis fruit, and totally dry. The tannins are extensive, but soft and complex in the modern style. This is a wine to drink now and over the next 15 years.

M. Cosentino 1997 The Poet Red (Napa Valley)
Price
$65
Forward aromas of ripe cherries and deep vanillin oak meld nicely. Black plum, sweet cherry and coffee flavors, with cedar accents. The very full, supple mouthfeel is captivating. Shows fine length, spicy dry tannins and the stuffing to last. Hold four or more years, as it will keep for ages.

M. Cosentino 2003 Legends Meritage (Napa Valley)
Price
$80
When Cosentino’s clarets hit the mark, they’re darn near as good as anything in the valley. This blend of Cabs Sauvignon and Franc and Merlot is wickedly good. There’s a ton of oak, but it’s just the perfect touch. Tastewise, it’s black currants, crème de cassis and sweet Asian spices. So soft and forward; drink now.

M. Cosentino 1999 Estate Merlot (Oakville)
Online Exclusive
Price
$90
Only 350 cases were made of this expensive wine, grown on the wineryÕs estate. ItÕs really very fne. Takes advantage of the vintageÕs ripeness, overrunning with plush berry flavors, and itÕs also notable for the velvety texture and complexity of the tannins. ItÕs not an ager, but flatters with the extravagance of youth.

M. Cosentino 2001 Hoopes Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon (Oakville)
Price
$65
Here’s a flamboyant, oaky wine that pushes it all to the limit. You can taste the sappy ripeness in the black currant flavors that have a sweet, pecan pie decadence. Dry, with luxuriously soft, fine tannins and perfectly fine acids, this is a real crowd pleaser.

M. Cosentino 1997 The Zin Zinfandel (California)
Price
$22
A briary, full-throttle wine with a ripe, appealing nose. Plenty of bright, forward fruit; strawberry preserves and raspberry jam pleasantly mingled with cocoa and toast. Wonderful spicy highlights of cinnamon and allspice. This one is really something, with exceptionally jammy fruit, great balance, and alcohol (13.8%) right where it should be.
