MacRostie 2007 Wildcat Mountain Vineyard Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast)
-
$40
MacRostie’s Pinots from this vineyard on the edge of the Sonoma side of Carneros always are big, ripe, powerful and ageable. This ’07 shows the fat, ripe character of the vintage, offering luscious raspberry, cherry, cola, red currant liqueur, bacon, anise, spice and sandalwood flavors. But it’s balanced enough to change in interesting ways over the next 5–7 years…

MacRostie 2005 Wildcat Mountain Vineyard Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast)

$45
This is a big, gutsy Pinot Noir, the kind purists object to as being Rhône-like. But that’s what MacRostie’s vineyard gives them, and the wine is brilliant in its power and California deliciousness. With thick tannins but a silky texture, it offers waves of raspberries, cherries, currants, pomegranates, baker’s chocolate and cola. Should develop well over the next…

MacRostie 2006 Wildcat Mountain Vineyard Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast)
-
$40
This is always a tight, dry, tannic Pinot Noir due to its cool, low-yielding vineyard. The ’06 is a very fine example. It’s astringent and closed, but with a luscious heart of black cherries, red currants and Dr. Pepper cola. With decanting, it’s fine now with something rich, like wild mushroom risotto, and should develop through 2012.

MacRostie 2007 Wildcat Mountain Vineyard Syrah (Sonoma Coast)
-
$34
Another successful Syah from this great vineyard, in the upper Carneros section that qualifies as Sonoma Coast, and that also produces great Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays for MacRostie. This ’07 Syrah, held back four years, still is somewhat tight and tannic, but extraordinarily rich and spicy. Drink now, or over the next six years.

MacRostie 2007 Wildcat Mountain Vineyard Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast)

Structure marks this fine wine, made from MacRostie’s signature vineyard. Although you’ll find a wealth of pineapples, Fuji apples and ripe pears, it has a minerality that makes it firm, and a clean, acidic finish. Elegant and classy, and could age for six years.
