An ambitious wine, obviously grown from low yielding vines whose fruity flavors have been concentrated into wild blackberries and cherries, finished with the exotic spices that characterize Dry Creek Zinfandel. A very good Zin for the price.

Lots of ripe pineapple and tropical fruit flavors in this direct, one-dimensional wine. Lots of oak, too, with a veneer of buttered toast and vanilla. Easy to find, with 10,000 cases produced.

A little tough and gritty, showing Petite Sirah’s big-boned tannins, and also a burst of acidity. The blackberry fruit has earthy notes of tobacco and spices. Drink now.

This offers flavors of lemon, lime and vanilla, with clean, refreshing acidity. It’s a zesty wine, and it could make for an alternative sipper to basic Chardonnay.

Standard and proper, this is made in the popular style. It tastes sweet, with buttercream, buttered popcorn, pineapple and peach flavors, followed by a smoky, oaky tone and good balancing acidity.

A bit heavy, with ripe flavors of apricots, pears and oranges. There’s a hint of sweetness. It’s a rustic wine, but serve it cold at big parties and don’t worry.

Clean and dry, but a rather uninteresting Cabernet despite its Napa Valley address. Shows diluted blackberry and currant flavors. Pricey for what you get.
