Maipe 2010 Reserve Malbec (Mendoza)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $16
Dense and dark, with plum, prune, blackberry and earth aromas. Feels thick, meaty and composed, with blackberry and dark plum flavors leading the charge. Density and balance are the wine’s attributes; it’s full, mildly tannic and generous but not overdone or overoaked.  — M.S.  (5/1/2012)

Maipe 2010 Reserve Old Vine Bonarda (Mendoza)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $16
Clean, pure and uncomplicated on the nose, showing depth and clarity. Smells and tastes much like a good Malbec or Cabernet might; it’s sweet and fruity, with black cherry, pastry, baking spices and a certain rubbery quality that seems to come with Bonarda. On the money for this variety.  — M.S.  (5/1/2012)

Dry and foresty on the bouquet, with notes of sweet berry, marzipan and chocolate. Feels bright, juicy and lively, with herbal plum and roasted berry flavors that come with spice, length and a lightly roasted overall character. Perfectly good and composed, but slightly sharp in feel.  — M.S.  (3/1/2012)

Maipe 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
Both the Maipe Malbec and this Cabernet Sauvignon show very good purity of fruit and skillful winemaking. This wine is full of black-fruit aromas, depth and style. The palate pushes ripe plum and berry fruit along with chocolate, and the finish is chewy and correct in terms of tannins and structure.  — M.S.  (12/1/2007)

Maipe 2008 Rosé of Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $13
As Argentinean rosé goes, Maipe’s is a success. The wine is clean and colorful, with cheerful cherry and raspberry aromas that are decidedly not funky, skunky or stale. The palate is snappy, with mild berry fruit flavors and a clean, medium-length finish. Candied and friendly but not forced. Drink now.  — M.S.  (5/1/2009)

Maipe 2008 Torrontés (Salta)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $13
Minerally peach aromas keep things lean to start, and it’s somewhat narrow in outlook throughout. The palate has melon, nectarine and papaya fruit, and there’s both citrusy acid and custardy richness to give modest complexity. Like a green-fruit lollipop in liquid form.  — M.S.  (8/1/2009)
