Maison Champy 2008 Pinot Noir (Mazis-Chambertin)

Dark colored, highly perfumed wine, packing rich fruit with its ripe, chunky structure. Black berries give a juicy character, taming the acidity, and allowing the wood smoke to wreath around the wine. Age for at leasy six years, but this can withstand more.  — R.V.  (12/31/2010)

Maison Champy 2006 Pinot Noir (Echézeaux)

  1. $150
A big bruiser of a wine. It is easy to love the firm, complex structure allied with beautifully ripe, sweet fruit flavors. The wine is rich and powerful, but there are so many things going on here, from the intense tannins to the smoky black finish.  — R.V.  (12/31/2008)

Maison Champy 2008 Chardonnay (Corton-Charlemagne)

A rich and generous wine, its fruit flavors coming from all directions and centering on a powerful, concentrated core. The wine has opulence, a well-judged amount of wood, and aging potential for six years or more.  — R.V.  (5/1/2011)

Maison Champy 2008 Les Cazetiers Premier Cru Pinot Noir (Gevrey-Chambertin)

  • Cellar Selection
The steep Cazetiers vineyard is among the best of Gevrey’s Premier Crus. This is a robust wine that can take all the wood thrown at it and still come back tasting of sweet plums and fresh raspberries. The tannins, with their smoky character, shine right through the heart of the wine.  — R.V.  (12/31/2010)

Maison Champy 2006 Pinot Noir (Mazis-Chambertin)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $125
A dense, almost heavy wine, with smoky, licorice flavors that dominate the fruit. It is firm, big, solid, the sort of wine that demands attention with its concentration and powered structure. It may need time for aging, but already the power and weight are there.  — R.V.  (12/31/2008)

Maison Champy 2006 Chardonnay (Corton-Charlemagne)

  1. $130
Showing the typical power of Corton-Charlemagne, this is a classic wine that offers full-on fruit allied to a strong wood element. It is rich and bold, flavored with white fruits, apricots, almonds and spice. While it is drinkable now, it would certainly repay cellaring for 3–4 years.  — R.V.  (5/1/2009)

Maison Champy 2006 Pinot Noir (Corton)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $96
In its early stages of evolution, this wine offers mainly stoniness, firm acidity and a hard- edged structure. Of course it will soften, but this will likely remain a tannic wine, the fruit always edged with acidity, for many years. It is potentially a great wine that just needs patience.  — R.V.  (12/31/2008)

Maison Champy 2006 Taillepieds Premier Cru Pinot Noir (Volnay)

Smoky, delicious, ripe fruit dominates this luscious wine. It sings of rich strawberries, given structure with minerality and sweet tannins. Immediately appealing, the structure does promise some aging.  — R.V.  (12/31/2008)
